RULES as adapted from the IFF (International Floorball Federation).
Basic rules:
Either side of the blade can be used as well as any part of the body except the head and arms to touch the ball.
The stick cannot be lifted higher than the knees.
Floorball is a non-contact sport, although in going for the ball players are able to go hip-to-hip or shoulder-to-shoulder. No leaning into players.
If playing at the ball, obstruction is allowed. However, opponents may not be impeded deliberately.
No jumping, tackling between the legs, throwing of sticks or shepherding.
Players must use correct equipment.
All jewellery must be removed.
Rules related to court markings:
Face-offs start the match in the centre of the court. A face-off is when players face their attacking end and have blade perpendicular to their feet with the ball in the middle. The whistle blows and player rakes ball back to their team.
Face-offs resume the match in corners and halfway spots marked 1.5m from the rink.
No players may set body (or walk) inside the goal box.
Substituting Rules:
No team may have more than 5 players on court at any one time, (which must include a minimum of 2 females).
Substitutions can only take place in the sub marks on the rink which are 10 metres long on either side of the halfway, and start 5 metres from the halfway line.
Free hits and hit ins:
Must be taken where referee designates, or may be taken straight away if on correct spot. Referee will only blow whistle twice if a time out has been called to reset goals or take care of other interruptions.
Opponent must stand back and have stick retreated at least 3 metres.
Approximately 3 seconds are allowed to take hits once ball is placed.
If opposition has been making more than a walking effort to retreat, this is acceptable.
Offences leading to a free hit:
Hitting, blocking, lifting or kicking an opponent's stick.
Hitting an opponent's foot or leg with the stick when in control of the ball or trying to reach the ball.
Raising the stick above knee level in the back swing before hitting the ball, or in the forward swing after hitting the ball (however, a high forward swing is permitted if no other players are in the vicinity).
Using any part of the stick or foot to play or try to play the ball above knee level.
Placing the stick, foot or leg between an opponent's feet or legs.
Forcing or pushing an opponent in any way other than shoulder-to-shoulder, when in control or trying to reach the ball.
Moving backwards onto an opponent, or preventing an opponent from moving in the direction intended.
Kicking the ball twice, unless in between it has touched the player's stick, another player or another player's stick. This is only considered an offence if the player, in the referee's opinion, kicks the ball intentionally both times.
Receiving a foot pass from a team mate. This is only considered an offence if considered intentional by the referee. Receiving a foot pass from a player in the same team is allowed if an opponent omits to take the ball despite the possibility to do so.
Passing through the goal area.
Intentionally moving the opposing team's goal.
Jumping up and stopping the ball. A player is allowed to jump over the ball, as long as the ball is not touched.
Playing the ball from outside the rink. Outside is defined as having one or both feet outside of the rink.
Incorrectly performing, or intentionally delaying a hit in or free hit.
Deliberately delaying play.
Deliberate breaches:
Free hits and hit ins must be struck and not drag pushed.
If an opposing player is not retreating, there will be a one-on-one in a 10 second limit.
Goals
A goal is scored when the ball crosses the line.
The players will abide by the referee's ruling at all times. As per International Floorball Federation July 2014 rules, continued protesting against referee decisions will incur a 2 minute bench penalty. Should such behaviour continue despite a 2 minute bench penalty, an additional 10 minute personal penalty will be awarded.
If required, further disciplinary action will be taken at the discretion of management.
